A Q&A with Peter Veale, Director of Firefly Lighting Design
We had the pleasure of asking Peter Veale of Firefly Lighting Design about his own career in design and what to expect in 2017...
What are your memories of your first restaurant design project?
Very fond ones, seeing as it was the first ever Hakkasan. It was great to be involved in something so creative.
To date, what has been your most challenging design hurdle to overcome?
Working on a shopping mall in Hong Kong, I had to correct the errors of the previous lighting consultant, which wasn’t easy.
What inspires your work?
There’s nothing more inspiring than collaborating with creative and open-minded designers.
Which of 2016’s design trends have caught your eye?
The trend of having neon text in restaurants, which hopefully won’t last long. ;-)
What are the emerging design trends we should look out for in 2017?
The use of more elaborate texture and materials, which will mean we’ve finally moved on from shabby chic!
