The Design Trends Making their Mark in 2018

The interior look of your restaurant does play a a big part in your diner’s overall experience of your establishment.

So to help you keep up on the design trends that will attract more customers to your restaurant, here is a list of what the future holds for restaurant design:

Old-School is Back!

In times of uncertainty, people seek comfort and security, which is why we are now seeing steakhouses and classic French cooking re-emerging across the UK. Even worldwide we are starting to see establishments go for a “grandma and grandpa’s house” aesthetic in order to bring punters a sense of being in the comfort of their own home, and expect to see this trend continue throughout 2018.

Bringing the Outdoors, Indoors

Vast amounts of landscape elements are being brought into the interior space, from potted plants to a living green wall, you will see these pop up everywhere. At La Centrale Miami, they’ve even gone as far as designing a seasonal vegetarian-focused restaurant inside its own greenhouse, which has a gabled ceiling and hanging planter baskets suspended from the ceiling.

The Acoustics Will Be Just Right

Restaurants are going to start integrating soundproofing materials into their original designs, so diners will be able to have a conversation without having to ask their friends to repeat what they said all the time!

Paneling Is Making a Comeback

Wood and stone will be taking over the manufactured metal, glass and ceramics, which designers use as subtle accents. KŌST, which opened in Toronto atop the luxury hotel Bisha features extensive white oak wood paneling complemented by exotic marbles in shades of jade, peach and ivory. Their dining room is both contemporary and inviting with a bright and relaxed atmosphere.

Get Ready to Get Decadent

Restaurant interiors are going to start transporting you back to the 70s and 80s. Neon colours, chrome, plexiglass and linoleum are going to become a prominent feature this year. Expect to see more flashy colours, metallic touches, gradients, patterns on patterns and risographs too!

Blank Canvas Food Halls

Food halls act as the backdrop for inventive foodie ideas. Collaborative environments spread out the financing risk, and that creates a space for creativity. As food halls are still growing in popularity, the need for these halls to be simple and beautiful has also risen. Chefs want an environment where the food can speak for itself.
